MUMBAI: The MSRTC will launch a unique day long trip for those wanting to explore the famous Raigad fort of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
“It will be a complete day trip and a good experience besides using a ropeway to reach the fort,” said MSRTC managing director Shekhar Channe. He said that the special buses for Raigad will be available on Sundays only. It will leave Mumbai Central depot at 5am and reach near Kille Raigad around 9 -9.30am. After taking refreshments from local retaurants, which is not included in the costs, the passengers can take a ropeway which again will cost them Rs 100 one way to reach the fort.
“The fort is visited by students, families and others on Sundays. It takes 20 minutes to travel on the ropeway and once on the other side, you can hire a guide or see the magnificent Fort yourself,” said a MSRTC spokesperson. After completing the tour, one can return late afternoon by ropeway and catch the same bus back to Mumbai. It will return to Mumbai Central by 9.15 pm,” he said.
The cost of one way bus journey is Rs 260 and therefore the overall cost for to and fro journey will come to Rs 520. “This does not include the ropeway tickets and the refreshment costs,” the spokesperson said.
Raigad is a hill fort situated in Mahad, Raigad district of Maharashtra. Many constructions and structures that one sees there were were built by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj when he made it his capital in 1674 when he was crowned the King of the Maratha Kingdom — which later developed into the Maratha Empire, eventually covering much of western and central India.
