Kalpesh Devdhare

MUMBAI: A serial molester was arrested by the Dindoshi police on Tuesday after he stalked and sexually harassed a young woman at Malad east.
The accused, Kalpesh Devdhare (30), had 12 past offences registered against him, of which nine pertain to molestation and inappropriate behaviour with women. Devdhare is a driver by profession and lives at Charkop.
On December 11, a 24-year-old woman was walking down the market at Navjala Pada in Malad east when an unknown man on a motorcycle started to stalk her. He tried to talk to her, but she did not respond. Later, while she was heading home, he began to stalk her on his bike once again. He made another attempt to talk to her and this time, he forcibly hugged her. The woman later lodged a complaint with the Dindoshi police.
Sleuths started going through CCTV footage in the neighbourhood. They also went through their records on habitual offenders and were able to confirm that Devdhare was involved in the crime. On Tuesday, Devdhare was picked up from Dahanukarwadi in Kandivali west. He was booked under provisions of IPC for molestation and stalking and produced before a magistrate court.
“Devdhare has been booked in the past by Chunabhatti, Goregaon, Parksite, DN Nagar, Dindoshi, Kandivali, Pant Nagar, Bangur Nagar and Powai police stations on various charges of molestation, extortion and kidnapping. We suspect that he may have committed more crimes and wish to appeal to complainants to come forward and record their statements,” said senior inspector Dharnendra Kamble, Dindoshi police.
(The victim’s identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
