Mumbai added 2,654 cases, its highest spike so far in a day, and 46 fatalities. The highest addition in cases in the city earlier was on September 17 (2,411). The total cases in the city are now 2,05,268, with 8,929 fatalities.
Also, for the second day in a row, the state reported higher recoveries than cases, with 19,163 people being discharged. The total recoveries in the state are now 10.8 lakh and the rate of recovery 78.6%.
The state as well as city reported a drop in active cases. The state has 2.6 lakh active cases, of which 26,663 are in Mumbai. Of total deaths reported in the state, 237 were from the last 48 hours, 115 from last week and 129 from the period before that, the state update said.
AMC Suresh Kakani said the health department is being extra-cautious as the city opens up further. “Seeing crowds on the roads, a decline in cases is unlikely to take place soon,” he said. A doctor from the public health department said house-to-house surveys would be able to identify people earlier and help in effective treatment. “We have roped in corporators and community health workers to help our surveys,” said the doctor. Maharashtra has conducted a total of 87,181 tests, taking total tests to 67.8 lakh. This month has been the worst so far, with the state seeing 11,975 deaths, 5.9 lakh new cases and 5.1 lakh recoveries.
MMR added the highest number of cases (5,743) and deaths (169). Thane city registered 458 new cases and 5 deaths, and Kalyan-Dombivli reported 482 cases and 5 deaths.
Meanwhile, the health of guardian minister Eknath Shinde is reported to be stable and has shared a video where he is seen taking review of works in his ministry and signing official documents. There were 416 cases from within NMMC areas and 4 deaths. PCMC areas reported 256 cases and 8 deaths.
