A red alert has been issued for ‘extremely heavy’ rainfall for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region as heavy showers continued for over 24 hours, crippling the city’s lifelines. At least four people were killed and one went missing. Apart from a landslide on Western Express Highway, incidents of house collapse, tree felling, and electric short-circuits were reported. The key low-lying areas reported water-logging, while homes or shops were flooded in slums. In another incident, two 26-year-olds were reported missing after a boat carrying 13 fishermen capsized around 10 nautical miles from the Gorai beach. Eleven of them were rescued. The IMD has forecast spells of more heavy to very heavy rainfall for today
