Healthcare workers go for door-to-door check-ups in Mumbai
As part of Unlock 3.0, the state government has allowed opening of malls, shopping complexes and market places in non-containment zones from August 5. *In Navi Mumbai, civic chief Abhijit Bangar kept the 46 hotspots under lockdown till August 31. On Friday, the area saw its highest single-day spike of 398 cases and seven deaths. The caseload is now 15,385, includes 418 deaths.
*Three staffers posted at the Taloja jail tested positive for Covid-19. The wife and son of one of these staffer’s also tested positive on Friday. The Panvel City Municipal Corporation (PCMC) is now planning to conduct mass antigen testing at the prison.
*The Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) has increased the number of containment zones to 62 from 41, but has allowed and vegetable shops in these areas to function from 9am to 5pm. Earlier only medical shops were allowed to operate in containment zones.
*While the lockdown in containment zones in the entire Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) has been extended till August 31, malls and shopping complexes in all civic bodies, barring Mumbai and Navi Mumbai, will continue to remain shut.
*Update at 12.30am: 232 more Maharashtra police personnel test positive for Covid-19 & 1 died in the last 24 hours, taking the death toll to 103.

*A day after Maharashtra added the highest number of Covid-19 cases, Maharashtra added 10,320 cases to its tally on Friday, its third highest addition so far. This is the second day in a row the state has added over 10,000 cases.
*Dharavi, which till early this month had over 500 active cases, now has numbers in two digits. Since the beginning of this week, the number of active cases here have been below 100. While on July 1, active cases in this slum pocket were 535—23% of the total 2,282 cases at the time—they dropped to 98 on July 27 and as on July 31, their count was 77 or only 3% of the total 2,556 cases reported there so far. On May 31, the active cases amounted to 52% of the caseload.
*The number of confirmed Covid-19 deaths among BEST staffers went up from 16 to 26, said an official on Friday. The BEST Workers’ Union claims there have been 107 virus deaths.
*Maharashtra’s case tally is 4,22,118. Active cases in the state on Friday crossed the 1.50 lakh mark and were at 1,50,662.
*Maharashtra reported 265 deaths on Friday, taking Covid fatalities to 14,994, very close to the 15,000 mark.
Mumbai added 10% of total cases reported in Maharashtra. With 1,085 fresh cases, the total cases in the city reached 1,14,284.
*Mumbai added 53 deaths to take the toll to 6,353.
*Mumbai’s recovery rate hit 76%, way ahead of the national average of around 60%.
