Mumbai: A day after the Vadodara police arrested Shubham Mishra for abusing and giving rape threats to comedian Agrima Joshua, the Mumbai Police on Monday arrested yet another man for doing the same.
The social media user, who goes by the pseudonym Umesh Dada, was arrested by the cyber crime branch from Nalasopara and was booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
The official handle of Mumbai Police tweeted, “Mumbai Police’s Cyber Crime Branch has taken a Suo Moto action in an abusive & threatening video, shared on social media by the accused operating the handle with a pseudonym Umesh Dada. He‘s been arrested & booked under relevant sections of IPC & IT Act #WomensSafety (sic).”

Prior to that, Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh had informed media persons that some people have been arrested for posting offensive content against women online. He had said, “We have arrested some people who were posting offensive material online against women. An investigation is underway. We will also take further action against Ms. Joshua, who made offensive comments on Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, after proper legal consultation.”
It all started when a video of stand-up comedian Agrima Joshua from 2019 went viral on the internet wherein she could be seen performing a comic stand on people answering questions on a website regarding Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s upcoming statue in the Arabian Sea.
Joshua later even issued an apology in which she wrote that she was sorry for having hurt the sentiments of followers of Shivaji Maharaj, but she continued getting bombarded with the vilest of abuses and threats on her various social media handles.

While Deshmukh has urged the cyber cell to look into the matter and take legal action against Joshua if necessary, he has also warned netizens against abusing and threatening women. He stated that Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj taught his followers to respect women and anyone found involving into any wrongdoing against women will be strictly handled by the law.
