On Friday, Maharashtra reported the highest single-day spike of 2,940 fresh COVID-19 cases. Out of this, 1,751 cases came from Mumbai alone, taking the city’s overall count to 27,068. About 857 patients have also been cured and discharged according to Friday’s report. With this, 12,583 patients have been discharged from the hospitals in the state. Currently, there are 30,474 active cases in the state.As cases continue to surge, the state government has, meanwhile, agreed to test 1,000 frontline workers in Nagpur. This tally includes 798 policemen, 253 doctors, nurses and other health workers who are working in two hotspot zones in the district.Meanwhile, the BMC has allowed online sale of liquor in Mumbai. BMC commissioner IS Chahal further added that the delivery alcohol should only be facilitated during the working hours of the shop — 10 am to 6 pm. Delivery personnel will have to wear safety gear such as wear masks and frequently use a sanitiser.
